I've seen the word decorum and dignity tossed around like bird seed in the yard, yet, I have yet to see the word respect for the living, breathing, feeling soul on the other side of the monitor used.
A simple ''There's another forum you can post your quizzes, Nola. We'd like to keep this one for bird ID's only'' would have shown respect ...

To clarify, cecelia said in her description ''almost no tail''...she used the word tiny on several points. Her description of color, tiny and almost no tail suggests a baby/juvenile instead of a ''small adult''.
I posted a picture of a baby starling because I thought that might be close to what she saw, to show an example of what a baby/juvenile ...

I will add one last thing, since I think I've been yapping enough, that may or may not have a bearing on this, but our temps have been in the high 70's, low to mid 80's here, up until this weekend, and lows around 50. If that has anything to do with it and birds that are seen year round here. Satruday/Sunday were the first true days of fall ...

I also mentioned the starlings because I am seeing them coming and going from a neighbors attic and hearing chirping. I only have a picture of the adults coming and going, that I think I took last week. Hence, I suspected perhaps cecelias bird may be a baby starling from the description.
If I do see the babies I think I might be hearing fledge ...

I posted the starling and cardinal photos because they closely match the coloring cecelia described, not because I just took them. I did not post all the links,so as to not clutter up the thread and they may not be her bird.
This baby song sparrow was one of a few I have been seeing. This photo was taken on the 12th of this month. ...

Richie, when they are poofed up against the cold, they are round.
We had our first freeze last night. My birds arriving this morning were twice their normal size, almost, and all poofy, liked they'd just been through a blow dryer factory.
The baby starling picture I posted a link to above, was taken here in August/Sept time frame, so ...

Jim, from the description of tiny everything, and a short tail, and since I am within rock throwing distance of charlotte, and have been seeing baby birds recently, I'm wondering if it's a baby she saw since it was so tiny. A phoebe would have a long tail, even though it's small. I am seeing those, but it sounds to me more like a baby. I don't ...

If you click on Photos at the top of the page, you'll see crwen's NC gallery, there are some other baby birds I have there, song sparrow and Carolina Wren. I could only post one link at a time, didn't want to clutter up the thread with my links, so you can go there and see if it's one of the other birds, of not one of the two I posted a link ...
