Have you checked Blue-gray Gnatcatcher? I just spotted one here in Ohio a few days ago. They're gray on top with a black tail and white underneath. It doesn't have an eyestripe, but it does have an eyering. The one I've seen likes to hang out in the tops of trees.

You said it had a red forehead? It almost has to be a yellow-bellied sapsucker, then, doesn't it?

Waterthrush has an eyestripe, this looks like it has an eye ring. That plus the reddish on the wings makes me think its another Hermit.

So I've decided that I'd like to try photographing these birds I keep tracking down. However, I don't really know anything about photography.
So what would you suggest for someone starting out? I'd like a digital camera, and I'm assuming at least one lens.
Money is also an issue, so I'm sure I can't afford top of the ...

My field guide also says that Purple Finches have a strongly notched tail, whereas House Finches have a squarish tail.

Nice pics of the B&W warblers! They're one of my favs. Actually, they're the ones that made me decide to start birding. Too bad I only see them during migration.
