• Re: Sunbathing Heron

This is amazing! It looks like the Great Blue has taken up yoga or some other Martial Art. All classic photos! I wonder what this behavior is? I've not ever seen a blue Heron do this ... are they drying out their wings/feathers like Cormorants do? So curious ... better still, fantastic pose!

  • Re: Settings in low light areas(Nikon D40)

Do you have a tripod? Are you taking your photos from inside or outside? One more question ... do you have a remote to snap photos? I'm asking these questions so as to better be able to assist you - if I have any good ideas, that is! I go through the same frustration myself!!! Wildlife and birds are so difficult to ...

  • Re: HELP!

a p.s.: I know very little about Nikon's and their performance so I can't give you any information about them. I wanted to add that you wrote the scope is lightweight. My Canon, with the 300mm lens attached would do best taking photos at the 300mm on a tripod. When Spring does get here and I go on hikes and such, I also ...

  • Re: Cedar or Bohemian Waxwing?

birdbrain22: First I agree it is a Bohemian... the overall grayish coloring and rusty undertail coverts tail are what to look for. mjh609.... there has been a Bohemian hanging out for some weeks now at Sandy Hook(in scout camp area). Although I am not quite sure if it is still lingering around. That is where I ...

I'll ask the Bohemians next time I see them if they want to come to see you!! LOL!! Wouldn't that be the best, we could all trade birds! I don't think I've seen a Grackle or a cowbird so okay ... smile!

  • Re: Cedar or Bohemian Waxwing?

snowyowl: riverotter:One more question though, if I may ... their tail are a bright yellow and you wrote the absence of yellow. This is the piece, along with the notable red waxy wing tip, that was confusing me in the identification of Bohemian versus Cedar. The coloring looks more like a Bohemian ... could it have been possible that ...

  • Re: HELP!

I guess it depends on if you want to view birds or take photos of the birds you view. My personal choice was to go with the camera. I have a Canon digital Rebel xti. I just got a new 300mm Sigma lens for less than $200 dollars. However, there's a converter that is less than $150.00 that will bring it to 600mm. Not ...

  • Cedar or Bohemian Waxwing?

I took this photo today, March 16, 2009 in Central Vermont. I can't discern if these are Cedar Waxwings or Bohemian Waxwings. My hunch is that they are Bohemian Waxwings because of the coloring and I can't see the red tips that I know the Cedars have. Thanks in advance for your input ... this forum is wonderful! I've been ...
