I guess it could be pollen. It was kind of irredescent/metallic though. Can pollen look that way?

The only hummingbird we get around here (midAtlantic) is the Ruby-throated. I only see a few of them every year. Can they ever show a yellow back? Saw one this morning and it had yellow running up the back all the way from just above the tail to nearly the back of the head. Don't recall ever seeing that before.

oh, I see. Yes. The gull on the right appears to be significantly larger to me IMHO.

Saw these three gulls on a rock in the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (7/21/2009). Have inserted a collage of photos taken about 30 secs apart. 1. It must fit in the trunk of my car (my rear seat folds down for even more room).
