This was a quick shot before it flew away to a distant hay bail, and I hadn't had time to set the camera properly for the shot, so it was a bit washed and oddly colored.
Is this indeed a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher? If so, it is a bit out of place in North Florida. They are normally found in South Florida at certain times of the year.

I first found this bird on the tallest pole above a house that looked like a ship. When I got to close for comfort, this bird and its partner (from somewhere nearby??) flew away together. Then, after lunch at a cute cafe, I found this bird sitting upon a metal roof overlooking the gulf. Again, when I got too close for comfort, the bird and its partner (from somewhere??? nearby) flew away again. Finally, while stopped at Gulf Coast Sheds, I found this bird sitting perched here on the antenna high above a home. When I got too close, the two birds (I don't know where the other had been this time either) flew away again, but circled back. The bird had perched once more, when I was able to get this particular shot. Of course, the osprey told me off a bit each time I got too near.

Pandion haliaetus
Horseshoe Beach, Dixie, Florida
10/26/09
3:37:52 PM

IMG_0297.JPG

Reddish Egret - Juvenile Dark Morph

Jacksonville, FL

Roseate spoonbill, in flight
Willet, feeding
Royal tern, winter plumage
