Raptor or pigeon?

This bird flew from the ground up to my fence this morning when I let the dog out, and waited at least long enough for me to get my camera. I know we have peregrine falcons around here (I've seen them going after the abundant pigeons), but this one didn't seem to have the distinctive head markings, though the barred tail with white tips looks right.

So then I started thinking maybe it's just a mutant pigeon that's a nimble flyer and I'm all excited for nothing.

I've tried attaching a photo. Hope it works! If not, I'll put it on my blog and link to it.

Thanks for your help!

Kitt

http://www.kittalog.com

Sharp-shinned hawk
Cooper's hawk
Peregrine Falcon

Golden Eagle

Golden Eagle

Osprey

Photographed in the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.
Great site! I don't have a picture YET but I'm on a mission to find out what kind of hawk this may be. Everything I have seen points to a Rufous morph of a Broadwing. BUT this guy is HUGE. From my vantage point at the time I was just above when he flew by. He hangs out in a culvert for a run off creek right out side the window.. (we've seen beaver and deer in there too!) My be nesting near by? So here is a discription to get you started!

Location NE Ohio near Lake Erie..busy suburban area (car dealerships all around!) some "wooded areas" (as wooded as you can get in suburbia)

Color: Back head and wings all solid rust no visiable markings (might have black tips on wings not sure)

Tail: black with white banding (points to B-W yes?)

Size: HUGE I want to say he was wing tip to wing tip 5ft!

Any ideas??????? I've got my book and my camera at the ready so hopefuly I can get a pic.

thanks!
