Is this indeed a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher? If so, it is a bit out of place in North Florida. They are normally found in South Florida at certain times of the year.

But I was hoping the bird buffs here could help me identify it. I'm a bit worried about it, it was dazed and confused when I came across it, it'd just open it's mouth and sit there, and with a little nudging it climbed up onto my hand and I brought it over to the base of the tree I thought it might have fallen from. A couple hours later I went back and it moved around to a shadier side of the tree but it was still very despondent and not willing to do anything, it would just shut it's eyes and sit there after it glanced at me. I thought that since it hopped up on my hand it was a pet bird but the more I look at it I don't think that's the case, also there were no clipped wings. Fast forward a couple more hours and it was in the same place, just as despondent as ever, I think it might have gotten hit by a car or something. I'm not sure if I should bother to call someone to pick the little guy/gal up encase it's hurt. Thanks everyone and here's the pictures.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr107/TwistedD85/MysteryBirdBack.jpg

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr107/TwistedD85/MysteryBirdFront.jpg

I'm having such a hard time finding it using the identifier, the blue wingtips throw me off.

Identify the bird at the bottom of the feeder

I'm not quite sure

I believe it is a Common Grackle, but the coloration pops so much. The refuge was designed as a habitat for migratory waterfowl, and this bird was in a large marsh/swamplands area.

It was wading in a group with two adult snowy egrets and what I think was a juvenile. From a distance, the bird in question appeared to be another juvenile. I snapped a quick picture of each and moved on.

Upon reviewing my photos later, I found that it appears to be an entirely different bird. I have looked at images of all the herons and heron-like birds listed to have been seen in the park, and it matched none. I looked through images of juveniles of these birds, and still found no match.

The larger picture can be found here.

Some things that stood out to me:

the bill appears long and curved, like an ibis.

it has similar markings to a tricolored heron, but the red is much more pale.

it seems to have black legs, a pink beak, and a white patch on the throat.

Any help in identifying this would be appreciated!

Is this a type of Cardinal?

I am just north of San Antonio, Texas. We have had a bird coming to our feeder that looks like a Cardinal in all respects except it does not have a crown and it's whole head is a blue/black color. The rest of his coloring is exactly like a cardinal. Its tail seems to be longer tho.

Help me identify a brown headed gray bird - Thanks

I live in Charlotte,NC and have been watching birds for 30 years. This morning I saw a new bird that I can not find it in any book. The closest seems to be a coastal bushtit, but those are east coast birds.

It is about the size of a Eastern Bluebird (maybe a little smaller). A quick glimps through my field glasses (unfortunately my birding glasses were in another room) showed the bird to be mostly solid gray (no noticable wing bars or other stripes, etc).

The head was mostly a light brown, but not complete like a cowbird, rather the gray body color ran along the side of the head almost to the eye. In comparison, more color than on a house finch, but not as complete as a purple finch.

What first attracted my attention was a very light color crown (perhaps very light tan).

Bill was black, slender and long (though not as long as a bluebird). Eye was dark but didn't get a good look at any eye markings.

I was looking down from a second story window so did not see underside.

Bird landed in my garden and appeared to grab a whitish grub, not a seed.

I appreciate your help. Thanks. R
