Is this a pigeon?

Can someone tell me if this is a pigeon and if not what kind of bird is it. Please note the long tail! Fanned out real large wen flying away.

This bird flew from the ground up to my fence this morning when I let the dog out, and waited at least long enough for me to get my camera. I know we have peregrine falcons around here (I've seen them going after the abundant pigeons), but this one didn't seem to have the distinctive head markings, though the barred tail with white tips looks right.

So then I started thinking maybe it's just a mutant pigeon that's a nimble flyer and I'm all excited for nothing.

I've tried attaching a photo. Hope it works! If not, I'll put it on my blog and link to it.

It is a domesticated Rock Dove. The Pigeon probably has an owner's band on it and is often kept for pleasure, as well as, racing and homing exercises. Look in your community for a large number of these hanging out around someone's home. That is probably where there is a Loft and their home.
