I.D for a Dundas Ontario bird needed

Forgive the long post but I wanted to be as detailed as possible. What kinda bird is this?

I found it in my backyard. It looks hurt...is that blood or something? http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/6673/dscn0062xz3.jpg Will it EAT ME? It seems pretty defenseless. And what if it has...SUPER AIDS or something?
