While some stood out against the sky, other eagles were further hidden within the trees ... some, such as this one, could be glimpsed only fleetingly as the river pushed us by (Skagit River; Jan. 2009).

Perched close to a juvenile, this one kept guard while only turning its head ...for most of the day. 'Wish I had been able to stop rather than drift swiftly by (Jan. 2009; Skagit River).

While on the Skagit River, managing to get close to this beauty ...'hard to get a boat to stand still in some of those river curves and frame the bird, too :) Luckily, their curiosity matches my efforts and patience. [Who cares if it's cold and the camera's freeezing my hands ???] – Jan. 2009.

This female Bald Eagle was preening THOROUGHLY mid-day while her mate (next photo) sat patiently in a lower branch. Canon 30D, 300mm f/4 L lens + 1.4x extender; handheld while standing precariously on a frozen slab of ice in January '09 (!) [:)] Thank God for IS and for holding one's breath while focusing !

It appears that some of the Bald Eagles from Conowingo Maryland moved up the river to Octorara Lakes in Lancaster County. I saw 8 in two days.

I had never seen Bald Eagles at the Octorara Reservior. Today I saw three and a juvenile Bald Eagle.
