I took this picture at my feeder towards the end of August and just found it among my photo files. I'm confused by the tail shape (Ruby Throat is fan shape) and the markings that appear to go from side to back of neck. I'm located in central Virginia so the Ruby is the most common himmingbird here.

I live in northern Virginia and have seen this hummingbird? several times. Well, I think it is a bird and not a large bee. As you can see, it hovers and drinks nectar just like a hummingbird. For comparison, the blossoms are typically about 1 to 1-1/4 inches across, 2.5 - 3 cm.
