On 7/4 I saw the bird in this photo at about 10,000 feet in the White Mountains of eastern California. It's the range just east of the Sierra, so is pretty dry up there. It was springtime up there, and this guy and his/her mate were pretty actively, well, mating.

Hello, Thanks for the input and the cool web link, I will check it out.
I shot the pic thru a window and I do not remember seeing a lot of yellow on the bird and if there was it was not very bright yellow. But it sure looks like it in the pic, but as i said, its a dull yellow at best.

I'm a bird-watcher from India visiting the Portland OR area on work. I saw these birds in the nearby Ridgefield NWR. I thought they were the Golden-Crowned Sparrow but I'm very uncertain since they are supposed to be uncommon in this Refuge. Can someone help me ID these ...

Looking at the illustration of House Sparrow, it could very well have been one...I really didn't ''examine'' him, but kept him sheltered in my hands close to my body so he wouldn't be too afraid or escape back into the jaws of the feline (FYI, I know cats are a big danger to birds and I do not let my cats ...

Here is another bird common in our feeder's everyday. I have looked high and low and can not find anything to match this bird. I am assuming it is a type of sparrow. Can anyone help me?
