I am new to feeding my backyard birds, though I have provided a watering hole for a few years. I live in a desert area near some wilderness, so I get some regulars (CA quail, mourning doves, house finches, sparrows), but I also get some very interesting occasional visitors, which is what I was hoping to see during migration.

This is your average hopper bird feeder, just much larger in proportion.
Here is the pics that I have so far of it, everything is complete besides putting the shingles on top. My questions and concerns are below the pics.
1. Is it too big? Will birds be frightened of its size and not feed at it?
2. Do different species of birds eat at ...

This is the inside, caulked all corners to prevent moisture from getting in and you can see the mound to split the bird seed to each side so none is being wasted.
