This is the same as before, but up in a tree by itself, most likely a 'guard'. Others are on the ground feeding.

They travel in small groups of 3-12, and are mainly a 'ground bird'. Occasionally you'll see them perched in a tree, or on a bird feeder when none of the other birds are on it. We've never seen these birds till the last few years here in the Ozarks of Ark. Never seen them in the 'flatlands' either!

I only posted this pic for reference to the characteristics of these little ground birds, while one is in the tree, the others feed on the ground. You have to look close to see them! Thanks to some on this website that have identified these little birds for us!

here in pa and nj, juncos are quite dark, appearing black on top with a pretty sharp demarcation between the black and white. they feed as you describe and sometimes come in groups, but having no problems being only junco among a larger group of other birds.

This is the first photo I have taken with my new camera and I am wondering if I am even in the ball park as far as quality. Its a Sony Cybershort DSCH5 and seems like an incredible camera.
I didnt think this would be very good because it was so small in the original photo but after cropping it I saw it still held together.
