It is difficult to determine the colorations on the duck sitting on the water under the log.
What did you observe to be the true colors for the following?
1) It looks to have a light speculum but I can't tell if there is any other color associated with it?
2) The back looks dark but was there color?

Can anyone tell what bird this one is?
Photo was taken in Orange county, CA in April.
It was at just another park with a small lake in residential area.
There were mallards, domestic ducks, geese, American coots, a couple of muscovy ducks and such around there.
