  • Bandit, The Loggerhead Shrike

These are supposedly common in Florida but this was the first one I'd ever seen. He hung out awhile to pose for me after making his presence known with his call. I got on the WhatBird site, typed in what I thought it was, and verified it by the excellent sound file of his call on the page! Thanks, WhatBird!

  • ID on a Florida bird

This bird looks like some sort of finch to me--maybe a juvenile? The beak is heavy like a finch's, a yellowish flesh colored beak and legs, tail almost looks like it is two feathers that each curve out to the side. When it flew off the tail was parted so that it was a very pronounced V. I shot several photos and also got one shot of another bird ...

  • Description including size, color, shape, location - what is he?

I'm trying to identify a bird that has been frequenting my feeder. He's the size and shape of a small jay or a large cardinal, but is not tufted. He has a white belly and a grayish or possibly buff-colored wings and back with a white stripe about 1/2 inch thick about 1 - 2 inches from the wing tips.  I live on the Florida panhandle and ...

  • Hi Mommy!

I traveled to visit my parents on their lovely piece of property in the middle of nowhere, Florida. I was lamenting over the very overcast day, but decided to take the walk down to the lake with my camera anyway. And what should I find, to my surprise, a pair of Sandhill Cranes with a newly hatched little one! I was so thrilled! The mother ...
