We watched in abject horror as the Red-Bellied Woodpecker flew to the Oriole nest and speared his first victim!  He flew back to the Walnut tree where we caught him in the act of bird cannabilism.

He simply turned his head and went back for another Oriole snack...and yet again for a third helping.  The Oriole family lost all their children in 2006.  The were much more successful last year with three healthy offspring leaving the nest!

He knew he was being watched with eyes filled with malcontent.  We glared at him with hatred in our hearts and tears in our eyes for the lost Oriole chick.  Yet he showed no remorse...

Enter the culprit in the Oriole family saga of woe!  The villianous Red-Bellied Woodpecker!  First spotted skulking in the neighboring Walnut tree.  Little did we know he was scoping out the Walnut tree as stage for his murderous intent!

As I was getting into my car the other day, I saw this bird and had to take a picture of it.  Luckily, I had my camera on me.
