Hi there. I have a kind of bird near my house (out in the country, near ponds and swamps, next to a forest, about 20 miles inland from the beach) that I hear but never can see. This might be a young red-bellied woodpecker, but I'm not 100% certain. I can see the red coming in on its head. Can anyone help? Thanks. :)

I'm almost certain this is an immature brown thrasher. It apparently was kicked out of its nest by its mom, but wandered away far enough that it crossed into unknown territory (the other side of the fence). That's where I found it. What a wonderful experience and certainly a wonderful surprise that isn't something you see every day. :)
