I have several suet feeders at my house, but don't normally get many woodpeckers. However, the suet log at my Dad's house gets plenty.Unfortunately due to the season, his feeders are usually back or side-lit most of the day, so lighting each shot tends to be a challenge.Fill flash is of course the best measure, but tends to limit my time with each ...

Hey all, I got this shot before the bird flew off, and I was pretty sure it was a Hairy Woodpecker. The back pattern is very distinctive from this angle, but I could not find a picture anywhere that matches it. What do you think?

I was out on my deck today and this little fellow was jostling for position on the suet block with a hairy woodpecker. He has the small body and markings of a downy yet his head seems totally off. The red was a rust colour, unlike the crimson of most woodpeckers I see. I thought maybe he was a female yellow-bellied sapsucker but the body ...

The kids and I were going out through the garage. When I opened the door, this fellow flew in from the garage. I'm almost certain it's a Downy Woodpecker. Sorry about the blurry image - my husband wanted him OUT and wasn't giving me much time to snap shots.

This bad boy is a regular visitor - even without our recently chopped [:(] tree. We erected a substitute feeder-pole system and he loves it!

Here's another regular visitor. She and her boyfriend love the suet.
Now if could just keep the piggy Grackles and Starlings from hogging all the suet...any ideas?
