Turkey Vulture: Medium vulture, mostly black with red, featherless head and upper neck. Wings are held in a shallow V in flight. One of the few birds of prey that is able to use its sense of smell to find food. They are attracted to the smell of mercaptan, a gas produced by the beginnings of decay.

Tropical Shearwater: Small seabird black-brown above, on sides of neck, undertail, and on flight feathers and leading edge of underwing. Underparts, upper sides of rump, and wing linings white. Medium, blue-gray bill with slightly hooked tip. Long, slightly pointed wings. Short, pink-gray legs and webbed feet. Sexes and juvenile similar.

Tamaulipas Pygmy-Owl: Very small owl, brown upperparts. Brown streaks on white underparts. Mottled tan facial disk, short white eyebrows, no ear tufts. Eyes yellow. Short, rounded wings, black-gray tail with buff barring.
