Since we've actually had a decent amount of rain in California lately, I decided to check out a few local vernal pools last night. Found a dozen or so Western Spadefoots, which I haven't seen in nearly five years. The usual Baja California Treefrogs and Western Toads were out in force too. Bird wise, I had a few glimpses of some Barn Owls, and heard a distant Western Screech-Owl, a species I've yet to actually see. Very foggy down here today as well, even into the afternoon. Had a nice morning around the yard, with highlights being five woodpecker species, including a pair of Pileateds (FOY), Brown Creeper (FOY), both White-breasted and Brown-headed Nuthatches, RCKI, etc.

I had an interesting and foggy day today at Jones Beach. Got my yearbirds RLHA, AMOY and Myrtle Warblers, and saw a potential Audubon's Warbler (which I will post photos of when I get back)

We've had a new visitor to the yard recently, an opossum that appears to be wintering in the landlady's run down storage shed. I'm hoping it's a female and I might get the chance to see her carrying her babies around on her back in a few months. *crossing my fingers* IMG_1630 by lonestranger102, on Flickr Yes, I still spend too much time pointing the camera at the rabbits and here's a few more photos to prove it.
