  2. DE Bird Quiz

This is just a wild guess, but female Bobolink?
  3. Technical Difficulties- grr! (mini rant)

    Heeey, congrats on the lifer!

I think this is actually a Red-shouldered Hawk... I feel your pain. My camera isn't fancy, it's just a point-and-shoot, so I've never had that kind of problem with lenses before. But my camera does turn off by itself really often, which is so frustrating. I'm glad the hawk stuck around long enough for you to get these cool shots.
  5. Backyard Bird and Shore Bird

fisherman1313: Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for teaching me something new!
  6. Possible Tri-colored Blackbird?

    Yay, thanks, guys!
  7. Possible Tri-colored Blackbird?

That's what I want to hear, since Tricolored would be a lifer! Does anyone have an objection? Could someone second the Tricolored ID?
  8. Backyard Bird and Shore Bird

Mm, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with the call of female BHCO. The female Cowbirds that I see do have some delicate streaking, yes, but they are mostly a solid bronze color. This bird has very distinct streaking. I want to say it's a female House Finch, because it doesn't have the clear eyestripe like the female House Sparrow in the bottom-left of the picture does.
  9. Possible Tri-colored Blackbird?

Agh, I was worried about that. I have other pictures but the angles are kind of awkward. Can anyone tell from this picture?

  11. Tri-colored Blackbird?

  12. Hey, guys! I haven't posted in this forum in a while. Hopefully you have all been doing well. : ) This morning I was birding near Sacramento. I scanned a flock of Red-winged Blackbirds and saw a number of birds that appeared to have white epaulets instead of yellow. I got a couple of (low-quality) pictures. Can you tell me if this is a Tri-colored Blackbird or just a weird Red-winged? Thanks! EDIT: I'm having a bit of trouble attaching my photo, but I'll figure it out soon enough.

I have a question about the swallow - how can you tell it's a Northern Rough-Winged and not a Bank?
