  1. I've been reviewing some pictures from earlier this year and came across these two sparrows (both seen at Point Pelee, Ontario in early September) and I can't place them (I'm terrible with sparrows). Any ideas what they are? 1) Two shots of this guy... DSCN8640.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr DSCN8633.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 2) Two shots of guy number 2... Thanks! Darryl
  3. Goose and Hawk

Hi, I have a couple of birds I'm looking for confirmations on. These were seen in Ottawa, Canada today. 1) Is this a Cackling Goose or just a dinky Canada Goose? To me, he looks pretty Cackley compared to the regular Canada Goose behind him. DSCN5312.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 2) Red-tailed Hawk (without a red tail)? 4. Rough-legged Hawk?

Hi, Is this guy, seen in Ottawa, Canada today, a Rough-legged Hawk? DSCN5161.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr Thanks, Darryl

  9. A Few Raptors

Hi, I saw these guys over Ottawa, Canada today. Unfortunately, they were way in the distance. I hope there's enough in the pics for an id. 1) Red-shouldered Hawk? 10. Warbler from a While Ago

Thanks, everyone. As always, I very much appreciate your help. An oddly-coloured Scarlet Tanager makes a lot of sense for that date and place. Cheers, Darryl
  11. Hi, I was in the process of cleaning out a bunch of garbagey pictures on my computer and came across these. The pics are definitely garbagey, but I'm wondering if there is enough info to identify the bird. It was taken on May 11, 2014 in Ottawa, Canada. I'm wondering about Prothonotary Warbler or Blue-winged Warbler or is it something entirely different? Somehow, the colour looks more Prothonotary to me and I don't think I see any wingbars or line through the eye but, as noted above, the pics are garbagey. Any ideas on what he would be? As a note, Prothontary would not be common in this area. On the other hand, there was one confirmed last week in the same area as these pics were taken, so they're not completely unheard of. 12. Goose

Hi, Is there any chance this goose with the wigeon is a Cackling Goose? DSCN2625.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr Thanks, Darryl
  13. Hi, I saw these guys today in Ottawa, Canada. 1) American Pipits? DSCN2610.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 2) Northern Parula? DSCN2440.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 3) Nelson's Sparrow? There was another, definite, Nelson's Sparrow which I saw earlier. This guy is more hidden, so I can't be sure of the id. 14. Reluctant Sparrows

Hi, These guys didn't want to come out of the bushes to be photographed, so the shots are pretty bad. However, I was hoping to get some help identifying them. They were seen in a swampy area in Ottawa, Canada today. 1) Swamp Sparrow? DSCN1327.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 2) Three views of this guy - Chipping Sparrow? DSCN1353.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr DSCN1348.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr DSCN1359.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 3) Swamp Sparrow? DSCN1373.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 4) Swamp Sparrow? DSCN1374.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr 5) Swamp Sparrow? DSCN1413.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr I appear to be guessing Swamp Sparrow for most, but that's a pretty well random guess. Thanks for your help, Darryl
  15. Lincoln's Sparrow?

Hi, I'm almost afraid to ask as I'm always wrong about these - is this guy a Lincoln's Sparrow? Seen in Ottawa, Canada, this morning. DSCN9976.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr DSCN9982.jpg by Darryl Ryan, on Flickr Thanks, Darryl
