  1. Well I had my first Empid of the year for Las Vegas. I'm thinking PSFL based on the long tail, long primary projection, eye ring and the underside of the bill. What does everyone else think? I was a bit surprised to see it in February. Additional photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/99824183@N07/12486155924/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/99824183@N07/12486129084/
  2. Pacific-slope Flycatcher?

I spoke with a local birder who I usually go to for questions like these. He thinks Hammond's. Hammond's also have a similar quick two note call so if I can find it again and it vocalizes I will have to listen better.
  3. Pacific-slope Flycatcher?

Thanks everyone. Maybe I will put it up on the local list-serve and start a discussion.
  4. Pacific-slope Flycatcher?

After I left the immediate area I did hear what I thought was it calling. All I remember is it started with a quick two notes. Listening the the calls online it sounds most like a PSFL.
  5. Yellowlegs

Hi guys, What is your take on this yellowlegs? Greater should be expected here (Las Vegas, NV 01/12/2014) but I don't see barring on the flanks on this bird. Unfortunately, it would not show me it's bill so this is all I have.
  6. Gull?

My best guess is Herring but I'm terrible with gulls. Taken today at Lake Mead, Nevada
  7. Gull?

    Thanks Liam.
  8. Yellowlegs

    Thank you.
  9. Yellowlegs

I was looking at my Sibley's which seems to show some and by some I mean minimal barring on nonbreeding greater and none on Lesser. Unless I'm looking at it wrong. Breeding birds are easier to tell.
  10. Bird Identification Course Author Wanted

I would also be interested if you still need testers.
  11. I took this photo in Nevada. I'm leaning towards White-throated. The photo shows some faint yellow above the eye. I thought I saw some yellow on the crown when I looked at it though the binoculars but I don't have a picture with it.
  12. Thanks for the help. I had a White-throated Sparrow earlier in the day. And this guy was with a ton of White-crowned Sparrows. Having never seen a Golden-crowned Sparrow I wanted to get a confirmation since it does not seem like a cut and dry bird.
  13. It was at taken today at Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge.
  14. Great. Thank you. I am still not totally sold because of the yellow above the eye and the color of the bill.

  16. Another gull

Not sure about this gull but I am leaning towards CA gull. I am wondering about this vs. Herring. The photo files are too big so I am posting them to my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/99824183@N07/10476721584/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/99824183@N07/10476717645/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/99824183@N07/10476748934/

Looks like a white-crowned sparrow to me. Fork in tail, plain breast, orange bill, eye line and dark stripe on head.
