What is this? A hawk of some kind?

Yeah, that makes sense that it's eating rabbits. There are many in the area. It was quite an impressive sight for suburban NY. I was able to approach to within about 20 ft. to take a picture with my iPhone. Wish I had my better camera. -
I just saw this in my backyard about 15 mi. north of New York City. What is it? It had some kind of animal it had killed (see the pic).
