    Song Sparrow, right?

Early March in Southeast Michigan. Song Sparrow?
  3. Hi All! Birding in E Oregon today (Wasco Cty), heard a song, couldn't find the singer. It's buzzy not sing-songy, but sounds like a sparrow. I was originally thinking Brewer's, but possibly now leaning towards Lark sparrow. But Lark song is longer, this is shorter. I can't seem to find an exact match. Any guesses? Sparrow Help

Sorry for the poor picture, barely got it. Anyone want to venture a guess? Viewed today, Warren Co. Kentucky.
  10. Here in southern California, not sure if it s a song or Lincoln's 0B0A2101-Edit
  11. These are spotted in Bothell, WA few days ago. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmdQ1aG2 All pictures in this album are the same bird, or I want to say - same flock. They were all together grazing on grass. They did not show any interest in the songs of White-Crowned or Gold-Crowned or Song Sparrows which led me to confusion. Please help me identify these Thank you.

    Sparrow id

I would have guessed these were chipping sparrows but the colors on their back look pretty different. Juvenile or just something else? Also, they were perched for a long time with what I thought was a goldfinch, but also looks a little odd (again, perhaps juvenile) Thanks I'd love any insight.
  13. Could I please have some help with this sparrow? Photo taken a couple of days ago in the San Francisco Bay area. Thanks! EDIT: Link replaced with BBCode and photo renamed in light of ID by forum members White-crowned Sparrow, immature by Mark Featherstone, on Flickr
  14. Hi all, I was hiking/birding at the Sandy River Delta this morning in Multnomah County, Oregon. I was unable to ID a sparrow that I saw toward the end of our hike. Luckily, I was able to take some good photos and I have since spent some quality time with my Sibley's. I believe that I have identified the bird as a 1st Winter white-throated sparrow, but I still have some doubts. Thoughts? Thanks, Duke

    Gull & Sparrow & Duck

Would y'all say this is a GW Teal x Shoveler? It's the ugliest Teal I've ever seen if not! Also, there is not option for that hybrid on eBird. Song Sparrow

Hi all, I reasoned this to be a song sparrow, because it looks like one to me by also by elimination, since I know it's not an American Tree, White-throated or House Sparrow (the other wintering sparrows in NW Vermont). But then I didn't consider a Savannah Sparrow, so I changed it to sparrow sp. until I feel certain. I still think it's a Song Sparrow due to redder coloring, lack of any light/yellow around eyebrow or lores, but want to get other opinions. https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S42752337 Thank you, Graham
  17. This was near St. George, Utah (Southern) in very scrubby habitat. Peterson's doesn't show the range extending into Utah.
  18. Obviously a male northern cardinal. Golden fronted woodpecker? The eye stripe confuses me on the sparrow in flight.
  19. New York City, Nov. 9, 2017 I'm stil confused by the Savannah and Lincoln's Sparrows. I *think* this is a Lincoln's because the coloring seems buffy. (Not sure if this was one bird or two. These are video-frame shots.) Thanks, Kami

    Song Sparrow?

I took this photo last August in Oceanside, NY. I was told it is a Song Sparrow, but the massive beak looks too large. I know that Song Sparrows have a lot of variability. Is this within their range?

    Lincoln Sparrow?

Photos from 01/02/18, La Mesa (San Diego), Ca. I saw a bird (01/01/18) that looked like a juvenile white crowned sparrow but had a streaked breast. I didn't have bins or a camera and as soon as the bird saw me it took of. Not sure what it was, but it got out looking the next day for it. I did not see it, but I happened across this bird. I was thinking about it being a song sparrow, but I'm thinking too much color. I guess I accidentally rolled my shutter speed the wrong direction .... Sorry for the bad photos. I'm thinking Lincoln Sparrow? Not a lifer, but a new yard bird.

    sparrow ID

Hi all, Saw this little one on Duxbury Beach, MA on 12/7 with some Song Sparrows. Smaller than the Song Sparrows and much lighter overall, but I didn't have an immediate guess at the time due to the list of common/non-rare species the ebird checklist gave me. Could this just be a smaller, immature Song Sparrow? It just looked so different compared to the darker, larger and seemingly longer-tailed adults or others nearby. See four pics entitled "sparrow". https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yWDVm5IoFzzqVgQiWynf1tz8Bc1ApVwl Thank you, Graham
  23. NYC, mid-October 2017. My immediate observation was a Chipping Sparrow. My White Balance was off that day. The video was much redder, so I toned down the color. Now I'm not so sure about my ID. Would appreciate feedback, thanks. Kami

    Sparrow ID

I encountered this sparrow today (11/5/17) on a feeder in central Virginia. I got the impression of Clay-colored, but after more scrutiny I favor Chipping. Can anyone confer or offer a better identification? https://www.dropbox.com/s/7adz61cuxri7rph/DSCN1724.JPG?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/snytortycfj23cg/DSCN1725.JPG?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/d5gc4s712q2n31r/DSCN1726.JPG?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ax4zhe5hk9ap2u/DSCN1727.JPG?dl=0 Thanks!
