  3. All within the past couple days in Southeast Michigan: 1. This goose was about the size of the Canada Geese. I assume it is a hybrid between a Canada Goose and something. What is it? 2. Fairly confident in these. Let me know if I'm wrong or missed anything. Canvasbacks, Redheads, Buffleheads on the right, and Hooded Mergansers in the back: 3. These were the best shots I could get.
  4. wild mallards in eclipse or am I wrong? https://imgur.com/a/5s0jO Southern NY, July Thank you!

  9. Ducks and Falcon

Photos taken the past few days at an inland pond (retention pond) in Southeast Michigan. 1. Which Scaup? 2. These are Redheads, Ring-necked Ducks (lifer), and Buffleheads (in 3rd photo)? 3. Please confirm (lifer) Peregrine Falcon:
  10. Fuzzy Ducks

OK, these were way out on the water and I didn't get them into focus for whatever reason. It appears the male has some orange toward his rear but after looking at a lot of duckie pics, I'm thinking maybe that's his foot and not feathers. This is around Lincoln, Northern Ca, yesterday smack in the middle of the Pacific Flyway.
  11. What are these ducks?

Seen today in Southeast Michigan. Both photos are of same 2 ducks.
  12. Ducks and Gulls

All photos were taken in the last week in Southeast Michigan. Photos 1-3: The all-white mallard in the foreground was the same size and shape as the wild mallards in this pond/lake. It also behaved like the wild mallards and hung out with them. Not with the larger (about twice as large) 5 domestics (Pekins?) that stuck together and stayed still. Do you think this smaller all-white one is white because of domestic genes or leucism? 1. 2. 3. Photos 4-6: Can someone identify these gulls? Guessing Herring and Ring-billed. 4. 5. (The right 4 gulls in this photo are the same birds as the left 4 in the above photo 4.) 6. Photos 7-8: Are these Common Goldeneyes? They were in the same general area as easily-ID'able adult male Common Goldeneyes. Age/sex of these? 7. 8.
  13. Unidentified duck

Found in Farmington Bay Wildlife Refuge, Utah on 12-28-16.
  14. Hello, I need help with these ducks, the females are confusing for me. These ducks were seen 12/2716 at Lake Parker Park in Lakeland Florida. I was surprised to see the ducklings so early, I guess spring babies are early in Florida. I am only guessing these are Mallards? 16. Duck Food

Hey there! As some of you may know, I have a one-legged mallard that frequents the pond by my house. She is very tame and yesterday allowed me within inches of her, and she never took off. I was wondering if there was anything, besides bread (unhealthiness ), that I could try feeding her. I went out with a bag of carrots and lettuce today, and if I tossed one close enough to her then the would go for it, but I never saw her eat any. I was wondering if what I'm feeding her is fine, or if there's another food item that's more attractive to ducks. Thanks! Here's a pic of the poor thing:
  17. All, I was just wondering if any of you knew about a good book that focuses on duck hybrids. I can't seem to find any, and I think it'd be a valuable tool to my study of ducks. Thanks! - Lizzy
  18. What female duck is this?

I know the male ducks, but the closest duck is a female. I can't tell female ducks apart very well. Is there 1 feature I should look at to better tell? https://www.flickr.com/photos/scotthubbard/31162490581 Thanks, Scott H.
  19. What the Duck?

Brown Ducks at a lake in the mountains this weekend.... Probably just winter or juvenile plumage that's throwing me off. Help?

Here are some distant ducks from November on the Atlantic coast... just want to make sure there is nothing but Gadwalls and Ring-necked Ducks in here. Any thoughts are appreciated!
  25. Ducks

I recently went to the western part of Nebraska and I saw many different species and I have had a hard time identifying these ducks. The first one reminded me of a mallard but seemed a little darker than usual. The second and third threw me off because of the black bill. The fourth I'm thinking is a mallard but I'm not sure (the smaller ducks around it are female blue winged teals). The fifth one was near more blue winged teals but stood out and had bright green on the wing (maybe female green winged teal?). The sixth one I'm thinking might be a blue winged teal? Sorry for having so many any help is appreciated.
