  1. Hi All, I live in an area that has numerous Bald Eagles so am used to seeing them often. Our area does get the occasional Golden Eagle and one has been seen lately. This morning I snapped pictures of this Eagle going past me. It is very overcast so the pictures are not great, but I do not see the white that I usually see on the immature Bald Eagles that are around. Can anyone verify this is a Golden Eagle? Thanks so much!
  2. So I was venturing in Denali National Park in Alaska and came across this guy hanging out in a tree in a downpour. My initial thought was that it was an immature Bald, but his/her beak seems abnormally large, maybe it is just because it is soaked. This particular bird was quite large as well.
  3. The following pictures were taken less than 1 /2 mile apart, same day, in Victoria BC. The first pics I believe are an immature bald, based on sightings & posts I've made here before. I've reviewed many posts here comparing the 2 but the second set of pics, purporting to be a Golden Eagle, are not clear enough for me to pass judgement. Is this the same bird, or is one a baldie and one a golden? 4. I’m wondering whether anyone out there has ever been to Raccoon Ridge Hawkwatch in Warren County NJ. From what I’ve heard, that’s a decent place to get some good looks at golden eagles during autumn migration. I realize I may already have missed the peak this year, but I’m still curious about a possible trip in the future. According to hawkcount.org, one can only approach so far by vehicle. The last 2.5 miles require a trek on the Appalachian Trail. Again, I’d like to know if anyone has ever visited this site. How would you rate the hike? My family and I are perfectly accustomed to day hikes, although by no means are we backpackers or mountain goats. The website advises against making the trip after dark as it “can be tough”. Not at all concerned about the distance, but moreso whether that means the trip involves streams, boulder scrambling, and ample opportunities to turn ankles. Hoping not to have to scratch this destination off my list. Thanks!

  6. I looked out by back window and saw this guy gliding around in large circles...the largest wing span I've seen in my locale and not at all like the other raptors in my neck of the woods (Brampton, ON). Too bad I didn't have a tripod, my hand is a little shaky and it is photographed through a window screen to boot!
