  1. Hi there! I caught a few pictures of this bird just as it was flying off in Colorado Springs, CO yesterday (Dec 29). My best guess is a Canada Goose x Snow Goose, but I'm really not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated! www.flickr.com/photos/137714130@N08/albums/72157690874907364
  2. Mallard Hybrid?

https://imgur.com/a/YBiKu I spotted this interesting duck yesterday (Nov 22) in Colorado Springs, CO. He looks primarily like a mallard, but with some obvious differences (blue bill, rear tail feathers, no white ring on neck etc.). He also seemed "paired" with the female in the photos. Anyone have any guesses what he might be? Thanks in advance!
  3. Was out today - just south of Minneapolis MN - a lot of open water and some migrants moving thru already (American coots and greater white fronted geese also in the area). Happened to see this one. Smaller than the canada geese - slightly larger than the mallards. Body shape / coloring also different from mallards. It was the only one that we could see in the area - mainly canada geese and mallards. Have found mallard hybrids in the pond before but I don't believe this is one. Thanks in advance https://rwglynn.smugmug.com/9999NeedID
  4. This bird was seen in Southwestern CT yesterday. I noticed it first swimming with a male Mallard, and it seemed odd. It was slightly smaller than the Mallards and had a very pronounced black eyeline. I also noticed a mostly dark bill, with what appears to be a pale tip. Other birders who I have shown the photos to have suggested a hybrid Mallard x one of the teal (maybe blue-winged), but I cannot find any photos of this hybrid combo online, or in eBird. I know ID may not be possible without better photos, or simply because it is a female. Thanks! 5. Hi all, I'd appreciate any input on what could be a hybrid between a Great Blue and Great Egret - and I realize this is an unbelievably rare occurrence. This bird was photographed July 31st in St Petersburg Florida on a fishing pier. It definitely has Great Blue Heron genes, but is extremely pale, has very dark black legs (like a Great Egret), has solid yellow lores (pointing to Great Egret genes), is missing both head plumes and a dark crown and was slightly smaller than a nearby young GBHE. Thoughts?
  6. Initially IDed as molting Greater White-fronted Goose, photo from Clarksville TN 8-31-15, in a flock of Canada Geese. Is this a possible hybrid? Investigating Canada X GWFG or Greylag, or Tule, any feedback appreciated
  7. Hello my fellow birdnerds, VancouverBirder and I (well, he had the idea) came up with an awesome new quiz that will engage both hemispheres of your brain, improve memory and cognitive function, strengthen neuron bonds to promote complex mental processes... Or at least, give you a challenge! Here's the premise: we will show you a photo of a hybrid bird, and you will have to decide which two species were the parents. The scoring system is as follows: Two points for both parents guessed correctly. All or nothing! IMPORTANT: SAY BOTH PARENTS AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! (It makes scoring MUCH easier.) Bonus point if you find the hybrid's name (some hybrid combinations have their own names)! Ready... Set... Go!
  8. Hybrid Towhee?

Heard this Towhee singing and found it to not sound perfect for Spotted or Eastern. Obtained these photos and am not sure if this bird shows enough spotting to be a Spotted, and with that bold wing marking of an Eastern, is this an Eastern showing slight variation or could it be a hybrid? The bird was seen in early June in SE South Dakota where Eastern are very common and Spotted are regular. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nd4dlgxtez3mua5/IMG_3206.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ky2n369q6gfjpn/IMG_3209.jpg?dl=0 Thanks!
  9. Presumed hybrid Cinnamon Teal photographed Oct. 24, 2014, as water treatment ponds of Las Gallinas, San Rafael, California. The black spotting of the chest and body and the gray-blue head patch suggested another dabbler parent, perhaps Blue-winged Teal (said to be common) or Green-winged Teal (supposedly rare). Any help would be welcomed.
  10. Presumed hybrid dabbling duck photographed 10/16/14 at Corte Madera Ecological Preserve (Shorebird Marsh), Corte Madera, California. Duck swam with Northern Pintails and was similar in size. The green sheen and buffy cheek were striking. Some think it might be a Northern Pintail x Green-winged Teal mix. Other suggestions included Gadwall or Mallard genes.
  11. Observed this bird at Newton Hills State Park in SE South Dakota this morning (5/21). I thought I was observing one of many Mourning Warblers seen, however I then noticed the subtle but present white eye-arcs on this bird. MacGillivray's Warblers are present in extreme Western South Dakota, but are extremely rare in the region where this bird was observed. So, is it a MacGillivray's, a normal Mourning variant, or a hybrid? Thanks!
  12. Around 4:30 P.M. today in Palmetto, GA (specifically known as Serenbe), I observed a strange looking duck within a large group of Canada Geese (36) in a pasture by a pond. At first it looked like a hybridized goose of some sort, but after returning with my camera, it looks like a duck.1st pic is the bird, while the second pic is the bird in its surroundings. 13. Around 4:30 P.M. today in Palmetto, GA (specifically known as Serenbe), I observed a strange looking duck within a large group of Canada Geese (36) in a pasture by a pond. At first it looked like a hybridized goose of some sort, but after returning with my camera, it looks like a duck. The first picture attached is a closeup of the face.(Note the brownish colored iris) The second link is the full size image, I think the link works but it may not. https://twitter.com/sammurray27/status/352893509923127298/photo/1 https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=14806b3602&view=att&th=13fab99373953d8f&attid=0.1&disp=emb&realattid=ii_13fab98d7c1bb1ae&zw&atsh=1
  14. I observed this Hybrid Duck in Northern Utah today. The stripe on its cheek caught my eye as I was scanning through hundreds of waterfowl this afternoon. I lost it in the crowd and then found it again in a different area of the reservoir about 40 min later. Nearly pulled my hair out searching. Anyway, I would love some input on what the cross is likely to be. I am leaning toward Mallard X Baikal Teal, or American Black Duck X Baikal Teal, but I am open to other possabilities because I could not find any other reports of this mix on the internet. Thanks for your help! BTW, this individual was among LESC, MALL, GADW, NOPI, COGO, BAGO, RNDU, NSHO, ...
  15. This dove has been visiting my southern MN feeder for about 2 weeks now. His belly appears to be all white, with white/brown flecked breast. Any ideas on I.D.?
