  1. Is this a Merlin?

Scaring some seabirds on a lake this morning. Thanks to anyone that can help identify what's in these photos.
  2. Just a Robin?

I saw this bird today hanging out near a pond. There were a lot of robins in the area, but there was one bird just perching up in the tree, not moving, and it was really dark, and couldn't make it out even in my binoculars. I thought it seemed different in shape so I took a photo hoping I could ID it later. But this is the best I've got it to. The amount of white on the underside is throwing me off. Thanks for any help
  3. Date of Photo: July 16, 2017 @ 5:06 PM Location: Greenlawn, Suffolk County, NY 11740 Bird taking tree nut from feeder. I am unsure if this is a Black-capped, Carolina or a hybrid Chickadee. The bib noticeably extends to the top of the chest and down to the nape of the neck. There were five Black-capped chickadees present, but the photographed bird instantly stood out. Any help would be appreciated. https://www.flickr.com/gp/9772325@N04/0Hg7UQ https://www.flickr.com/gp/9772325@N04/70U090

  11. What type of sandpiper?

Hi, all. Sure is hard to tell different species of sandpipers apart. Took this photo yesterday in long Beach, Long Island. Is it a semipalmated? If so, how do you tell???
  12. Hmm? A type of sparrow perhaps?

Hello, all! Check this little specimen out. Looks like it's got a tasty little morsel in it's mouth. I own a field guide, but darned if I can figure out which brown and white spotted little bird this! Thank you all for your help! -Peter
  13. Wow. Two in one. But what are they?

Hi, fellow birdwatchers! I saw several new-to-me species this afternoon in the marshy Lido Beach Nature Area, town of Hempstead, Long Island, New York. in fact, this won't be my last post asking you all for help! Here are two specimens perched together. The one on the left is definitely a waxwing. I think a Ceder rather than a Bohemian....however... ..what in the world do we have perched on the right on the top of the tree?!?!? Anybody??? -Peter
  14. I was playing golf at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow today when I witnessed a large blue-grey and white bird with yellow talons attack a smaller bird in a tree. After a scuffle which I heard more than saw, the smaller bird got away and the raptor came and landed on a branch right above my head. Since I was in the middle of playing my shot, I only got a chance to snap 2 quick blurry pics. I assumed it was a hawk as I see those on Long Island all the time, but after watching it fly away I noticed the wing shape was different and it was doing less gliding than I've seen hawks do. I did some research and think it might be a peregrine falcon. Can anyone confirm this for me? I love experiencing local wildlife and it'd be exciting to know I saw my first falcon today.
