  1. Hi all; you helped me before do here goes... this bird showed up today on my birdcam. I was thinking some kind of goldfinch? I am new to birding. This is the first new bird in months so spring is here or close!
  2. Anyone know? This is the only picture I got before it flew away. It had a very pretty song, though!!
  3. Hi; I am new to birding and have placed a Camera near our bird feeder to capture birds on film so I can more easily identify the birds that stop by. I have managed to identify most but the attached two which I think are the same species can can’t. Can someone help? The first two pics are the same bird. NMZephers
  4. Some of you may have seen this photo I posted to "Best pic of the day" yesterday. I have it down as an immature white-crowned sparrow and nobody on here corrected me. buuuut, I posted the same picture on my state's birding group on Facebook, and got met with this comment: "This is another, smaller sparrow species that's also very common in sNM in winter." and this one which I can't tell if they meant as another clue that I was wrong or if it just a statement : "in the summer I've seen these in alpine meadows at 10,000 ft elevation here in Colorado" Either way, I'm perplexed now. Here are some more: Here you can see an adult hiding itself, so I know these birds are around.
  5. Green back, blackish wings, finch-y beak, yellow rump?? I've only seen this bird one time. Can't find anything quite like it... Seen in central New Mexico on August 21.
  6. Two hummingbirds buzzed through my yard yesterday, late afternoon. They were too fast to get a good look at. This is way earlier than I've seen hummingbirds here before. No photo, no recording ... what could they have been, based on migration patterns. Black-chinned? Unlikely to be Rufous or Broadtailed, just too early. I've put the feeder out to see if I can attract them. Tesuque, NM
  7. Type of Vireo?

I saw this yesterday in a forested area of the Sandia Mts near Albuquerque, NM. Having a hard time nailing down a definite ID... it's a Vireo but I'm not sure which kind. I'm thinking Cassin's b/c their migration path sends them through NM, and the color... but I'd like to know what you all think. thanks!
  8. Type of Vireo?

Saw this yesterday on the forested side of the Sandia Mts, near Albuquerque. 5-7ft altitude, mostly Ponderosa pine with other deciduous trees. I'm thinking its a Vireo, perhaps a Bell's or Warbling... it's a little north of the range for a Bell's according to my guide but I think its still possible. Thoughts? I appreciate the help!
  9. Cordilleran Flycatcher?

Saw this in the Sandia Mts, near Albuquerque. It was in a forrested area (mainly ponderosa pine) that was about 5-7k ft in altitude. It was on the smaller side, and I'm wondering if it's a Cordilleran? Any thoughts? I appreciate the help!
  10. Plumbeous Vireo?

Saw this on the wooded side of the Sandia Mts near Albuquerque, NM. I think it's a Plumbeous Vireo but I'd like confirmation. If not, any thoughts on what type of Vireo? I appreciate the help!
  11. Type of sparrow?

I have such a hard time with sparrows... I saw this over the weekend in some scrubby desert area south of Albuquerque, NM. Any thoughts?
  12. I saw these two birds over the weekend just south of Albuquerque, NM. They were in some scrubby desert near an arroyo with a few trees. I know it can be hard to distinguish between Dusky and Gray except for where you find them... and I know that both types have been recorded in this area... I saw both in bushes, not trees. Can anyone help narrow it down for me? Are both birds the same type? Thanks!!
  13. Unknown Sparrow

This is probably just a house sparrow, but I'd like to know what you all think... saw this in some scrubby, desert, open area near Albuquerque, NM. Attached is a photo - any thoughts? Thanks!
  14. American Redstart?

Saw this over the weekend in some wooded areas near the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, NM - The best ID I can make is a female American Redstart b/c of the solid white wing bar... I thought at first it was a Yellow-rumped Warbler b/c it was about the same size and there are tons of those around there... but what do you all think? Thanks!
  15. clay-colored sparrow?

I saw this last weekend at the Bosque del Apache NWR near Socorro, NM. It was in a scrub brush/desert area. This is the best photo of it I could get. I was thinking possibly a juvenile clay-colored sparrow? Any thoughts or suggestions? I appreciate it!
  16. Flycatcher or ... ?

Can't quite nail this one down... like my other recent posts, I saw this on Saturday in the Sandia Mts foothills... but this was more on the flat, "front range" part of the foothills near some drainage areas. I'm thinking some sort of flycatcher or something similar... both photos are of the same bird, just different angle/lighting. Basically gray on top, orange-ish belly; no brown on the wings/tail. Maybe a Say's? Any thoughts?
  17. Rock wren?

Saw this one yesterday in the Sandia Mts foothills near Albuquerque, NM... flying in and around the steep, rocky slopes near Embudo canyon... I'm thinking rock wren, but I'd like to know what you all think b/c it's a little more brown than I was expecting. Thanks!
  18. Sparrow or ally?

Saw this in the Sandia Mt foothills on 4/5/14 - not quite sure what it is but I'm thinking a Canyon Towhee or some sort of sparrow? I appreciate it!
  19. Sage Thrasher?

Saw this in the Sandia Mt foothills near Albuquerque, NM on 4/5/14... https://www.flickr.com/photos/catchabrick/13678474464/ I'm thinking Sage Thrasher... What do you all think? Thanks!
