  1. Snowy Owl

Very good year for this species in southern Ontario Canada.
  2. Taken in Mahopac, NY on 4/30/17 What can you tell me about these owls? They were close to each other, so I assume "same family". Pictures were taken in the middle of the afternoon. Any help would be appreciated. The first one looks like an adult. The second one very young (this year?). Could it be there nest? ...and the third one in the middle...

  13. Various owls ID

I collect postcards, and I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the species on these unlabelled ones. (I'm starting a bird postcard collection in order to be able to ID more birds myself.) Kentucky owls - I assume the one at the top is a Great Horned Owl, but other than that I'm not sure. https://www.flickr.com/photos/132317803@N03/19182307276/in/dateposted-public/ Unknown owl from USA card: https://www.flickr.com/photos/132317803@N03/18585896574/in/dateposted-public/ From Japan - I think these are Blakiston's fish owls, could anyone confirm that for me? https://www.flickr.com/photos/132317803@N03/19022264379/in/dateposted-public/ From a card printed in Hungary: https://www.flickr.com/photos/132317803@N03/19208420455/in/dateposted-public/ Thank you so much for any info!
  14. This is definitely a juvenile. He has 4 siblings. Can you help with the type of owl? The location is southern Manitoba. The date was August 2, 2013.
  15. Owl "irruption" in Minnesota

This is about how bad the winter has been north of Minnesota, forcing lots of owls southward for food. It has some great pictures of indignant owls getting checkups by a vet. http://www.sfgate.com/news/us/article/Tough-winter-forces-owls-south-in-hunt-for-food-4351977.php
  16. My wife and I were really thrilled to sight a Saw-Whet Owl late yesterday, here in north Toronto, Ontario. The sighting occurred at around 4pm, and the owl remained on the spot beyond dusk at 6:45pm. I am not sure if this is a male or female? We have heard this type of birds song out in the bush before, but had never seen it, what a thrill. The Owl seemed very relaxed and we managed to move in fairly close. story and more pics http://frametoframe.ca/photo-essay-northern-saw-whet-owl-sighting
