What does "Sniped" mean?

The internet definition is "loosely" someone got there before you.  It started with people being sniped by a last minute bidder on ebay and moved on to other forum types...

I had to ask the same thing.  From my understanding it means that like you for e.g. got to the shot first and killed the guy and my shot was just a hair too late and proved that he was dead.  From my view that is what it is.

EDIT; Sniped defining Sniped! :P

Thanks. Unfortunately, I totally wrecked my back recently so looking at the birds on this forum has become my substitute for actual birding... and there aren't a lot of birds left here on top of that. So I guess I'm spending too much time here checking for new birds so and sniping others! But learn something every day, often about birds I have never seen - which is nice.

Maybe I will start a Life list for all the birds I have seen on Whatbird.

Sorry to hear about your back!   If I started a life list of all the birds I had seen on WB my life list would be bigger than it is now.....:P
