Wish me luck tomorrow, after a three-hour Lagoon trip I am going to look for a smooth-billed Ani the first ever reported in the state of Mississippi.

I braved the rain this morning for the smooth billed ani. We were both soaked to the bone!

Today I was filling in my lifelist from a trip to Arizona this August. I got my lifer Lucifer hummingbird while there and what makes it even more special is that this lucifer completes all the hummingbirds listed in my lifelist! (Cornell third edition)

Woohoo!  #145 on our yard list, #150 on our neighborhood list, and a lifer for both of us!  The chickadees were very concerned...

Got my nemesis marbled godwit today despite them really trying to hide their identity

But they couldn't resist showing off those bills for too long

I went on a lagoons trip this weekend and was able to see several lifer coastal species not in my usual land-lubber area:

Ross's goose:

American White Pelican:

Common Gallinule:

And an unexpected lifer, an eastern diamondback rattlesnake (I always see timber):

Finally got a long overdue ABA lifer.  They've just never been around when I've gone to Texas.  It was a nice redemption since I had a painful dip on a chase for one in California two years ago.  Not a world lifer, though, since I've seen them in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.
