Seems all my photos are too big to post.  Does anyone know how to fix that problem.  I do crop as much as I can.  Is it my camera?  Is there a way to make the photos smaller?

There is a very small amount of space here to post photos.  The recommended method is to use a photo hosting site like photobucket or flickr and then embed the links to your pictures.

Hi, folks- new to forum. Tried to post a help-with-ID query this AM, can't find it now. Just re-posted the same topic, can't find it either. Thanks. Rich Saunders

It takes a while sometimes, especially after iBird Launches new Birding Apps, like now.

Welcome to Whatbird! As Bigfoot alludes to, first-time posts are delayed until a moderator has a chance to look at them and verify that they're not spam. Sometimes our (wonderful) mods are busier than others. :)

Thanks for the info, I have been waiting to get a report requested about a problem here in the forums.

I'll be able to re request by Monday.

Bigfoot

I've been getting it pretty frequently here too. Not just for posting, but just loading new threads, or just now when first opening the forum page. I'm using Chrome v35.0.1916.114 m if that helps.

We are going to have to find this problem of Database by ourselves for now.  If this is because of emoji posts, we are out of luck, but it may be something else.

If we can isolate the problem then I can request a fix.

I've only tried emojis once or twice.

The Whatbird website (not the forums) can also be sluggish, but I don't think I've seen the error message.

What are emojis?

They're smileys and various other pics that originated in Japan. I'm not sure if they're on Android phones (they weren't when I had one years ago) but on iPhones/iPads/iPods, you can use them in any kind of message.

For what its worth I've never gotten that error on my (Android) phone or my Ipad.

Thanks for this information... it may be important.

I just got the error on my work computer, and I've gotten it on my android phone before as well.  Much more frequent on the computer though.

I still get the error frequently (most recently last night). It seems to happen mostly when I am finished reading a thread and click on another forum to check it out. Last night it was when I had finished reading page 1 of a thread and clicked on page 2.

I always access WhatBird on my netbook (WIndows 7 starter, latest version of Chrome).

It seems to me that it happens when I haven't posted; last night I definitely hadn't.

I don't know if it's related, but loading pages on WB outside of the forum can be very slow.  I don't think I've ever gotten the driver error message like I do when using the forum, but don't hold me to that.

I'm still getting the database error a couple of times a day (once already today).  Netbook with Windows 7 starter and updated Chrome.

About 2 days ago I posted an ID question along with a photo of a red headed bird.  I haven't seen the post, haven't gotten any emails beyond acknowledging my account.

Did my post make it through the review process?

If not, I can easily send it again.

Thanks,

Mark Becker

I am still receiving the error this morning.  Not sure when you made the changes.

The repairs were this morning, I want errors from after I posted my first message.

BF, I just got the database error now.

"There appears to be an error with the database.

If you are seeing this page, it means there was a problem communicating with our database. Sometimes this error is temporary and will go away when you refresh the page. Sometimes the error will need to be fixed by an administrator before the site will become accessible again.

You can try to refresh the page by clicking here"
