My newest family edition (though he's getting a lot fluffier since I took that picture. He's an English Budgie):

Jacky (the feather chewing wonder on one of his worse looking days. He chews when stressed, or when looking to breed, or when it strikes his fancy. Complicated bird! But I love him.). The red on his beak was from a strawberry. Makes him look more vicious:

Jacky is a Parrotlet. (I think)

Thanks, thought it didn't look right for a Budgie. Afraid my knowledge of birds kept as pets is very limited.

Yeah, Jacky is the parrotlet of wonder... as in..

I wonder why he does that. He had a feather chewing fest this weekend. Forever going to make me sad since I have NO clue what might have set him off. He goes for periods of nothing, then chew, chew, chew....turns into the battered gray cottonball bird. I wish he'd get better. Unfortunately no birdie psychologists for him to talk to to figure out his mental issues. I guess I should just be happy that he's healthy otherwise.

When my older sisters parrot did that a LONG time ago, the vet gave her a cone to put on his neck. He didn't like it, but it kept him from chewing, but he could eat and drink, etc.

Here is a 2011 photo of my dog Casey with a Mourning Warbler that had crashed into a window and was stunned. It was raining outside, so we placed the bird inside the garage at the entrance. Casey guarded it the whole time (about an hour) until it was strong enough to fly away:

Here is a more recent photo of her in her favorite activity of watching for animals, especially deer:

Since I used to work in the pet industry, I've had just about every pet known to man. :) But right now all I have are fish.

Nice ciclid! I remember seeing them in one of my tropical fish books (yes, I have "field guides" to them too) and wanting it. My mom said ciclids don't get along with the docile fish we had. (mollies, guppies, tetra, those little catfish that the name is not in my head right now, placo-nah, I'm not even going to try)
